TSPHC's Ultimate DC Animated Universe Watch-list

Hello Army, it’s Casey.

During the “Holiday Bonus Vol 6” I was talking DC (shocking) and their last animated movie. Todd had asked for a curated list of what I thought were the best of the animated movies, and what would make a cohesive story… Well here it is! Enjoy, and we’ll see you all Sept 18th for our season 4 premiere “V for Vendetta.” Until then. Be safe, and be heroic!

Based off the “Tower of Babel” story arch. Good Jumping off point for the franchise. It’s a slight continuation of the Justice league Unlimited series, and gives you a base understanding of each character.

A lot of things change with this movie, beyond a soft reboot to be inline with the “New 52” universe. Nothing else can be said without spoilers.

Real start of the “New 52” universe, and based off the star of that in universe in the comics. Fun pacing, and full of great one-liners. Sets the tone for rest of the DCAU moving forward. The end credit scene won’t be paid off for a few movies, so stick with it!

Based off the story arch “Batman & Son”. Besides introducing Damien, there’s not much else to say - except there are “Ninja Man-Bats!”

Direct follow up to JL:War. Introduction of Aquaman and the Atlantians. Also some voice changes, most notably Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern.

Bruce Wayne is missing. While Nightwing and Robin patrol Gotham City in his stead, Alfred covers for the missing Batman & investigates his disappearance. Introduces Batwoman and Batwing.

Damien is sent to join  the Teen Titans due to some friction with the JL. Conflicts ensue, thus the title…

Many magical characters are introduced, and Baman tags along for the adventures. Matt Ryan of The CW’s Constantine returns to voice the same character.

The Teen Titans adventures continue, and they gain a new ally, Terra…or is she? (OMINOUS MUSIC)

This is a sequel to Assault on Arkham, which you can skip because everything you need to know about these characters for future films can be found here. Also this is the first “hard R” main film. (That’s a rating, not a pronunciation)

This was split into 2 movies originally, but why do it that way when you can just watch the one. Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute from the American version of The Office) is Lex Luthor - which is perfect!

I included Hush because it is a nice buffer between “The Death & Return of Superman” and the last film…

This is the final chapter in the “DCAU.” It’s dark, and at times bleak, but still very enjoyable.

Honorable mention goes to these offshoots that are fun, self-contained stories (one-shots) and alternate universe stuff:
